BELONG Study Information

The BELONG Study will evaluate the safety and the effectiveness of an investigational new drug for lupus nephritis. Study participants must be at least 16 years old and have active lupus-related kidney disease. In addition, participants must not be pregnant or planning to become pregnant. For more information about this study, you can call (888) 662-6728 or go to www.lupuskidneystudy.com/who.aspx.

As you may know, approximately 1.5 million Americans have some form of lupus. Ninety percent of people with lupus are women and 80% develop it between the ages of 15 and 45. It is two to three times more common among African-Americans, Hispanics, Asians and Native Americans. Unfortunately, medications for lupus are limited and no new medication had been approved in the last 40 years.

We are not endorsing this particular clinical trial, but would like to share the information as a valuable public service. Choosing to take part in a clinical trial is an important, personal decision. You may want to consult with your doctor, family or close friends before considering enrollment. You may also visit www.clinicaltrials.gov to learn more about participating in clinical trials.
