The Lupus Foundation of America, Southeast Florida Chapter invites and encourages EVERYONE locally and worldwide to participate in World Lupus Day 2008 - May 10 2008.

Over 5 million people worldwide struggle with the often debilitating health consequences of lupus. Lupus is a potentially fatal autoimmune disease that is capable of causing irrevocable damage to virtually any part of the body, including the heart, lungs, kidneys, brain and skin. This is almost exclusively a disease that affects women, though 10% of the documented cases are men.

Let us know how you plan to participate and share your ideas and PHOTOS with us.

Here are a few ideas to get you started:

bullet Create an email link and ask everyone to forward it to a friend. Keep it brief and include the basic facts about lupus. We would greatly appreciate it if you include  info@lupusfl.org in your email list so that we can see the impact of your efforts and extend our thanks to you.

bullet Create a human butterfly at a park or large stadium (pictures would speak volumes)

bullet If you are a teacher or have children, create a large paper link that surrounds your school to support the linking theme that we are "all connected for the cause".

bullet Be as creative as you wish and share your ideas with us.

The World Lupus Day Proclamation was first created in 2004 when an international Steering Committee representing lupus organizations from 13 different nations met in the United Kingdom to organize the first observance of World Lupus Day.
Today, The Proclamation continues to act as a call to action for governments world wide to increase their financial support for lupus research, awareness and patient services.
Each year, the Steering Committee revises the Proclamation to reflect the emerging issues facing the global lupus community and further serves to give a single voice to all individuals affected by lupus
